As we’ve gotten to know our customers we have found that they are more than what they seem! They are authors, actors, bee keepers/honey makers, artists, knitters, brew masters, yogis, dog trainers, musicians and so much more! We’d like to showcase these folks and share with our community how cool they are and where you can find them and their work.

Bee Rescue & Honey Maker

Grumpy Bees: Honey Bee Rescue and Raw Honey Products was created in 2016 on a dare.

Never tell Doug Streeter he can't do something. While Doug was hanging out with a friend they were talking about the friend's bees and his need to buy bee boxes. This turned into the friend telling Doug "there's no way you can build bee boxes from scratch!" Doug's research began the next morning ...internet searching, comparisons of hive and box alternatives, ideal dimensions, 8 versus 10 frames, YouTube, Facebook, Cornell Coop Ext. ... the Bee Keeper's rabbit hole!! Doug knew for a fact he could build the perfect bee box.

Enter Steven, Doug's BIL. He had decided he wanted to raise bees and he had a neighbor with a very old tree that was infested with bees. The neighbor told Steven that the bees had to go and was ready to hire an exterminator but told Steven that if he could get the bees, he could have them. Doug and Steven joined forces ... more research ... and the first bee rescue ensued. Success! In September 2016 they were proud owners of one very large hive living in Doug's homemade bee boxes.

8 years later Doug and his wife Terri are still rescuing swarms from homes, businesses, trees and even a bicycle! All of this on top of their 9-5 careers. The bees are loved and cared for and we as a community are served well because Grumpy Bees is promoting a healthy bee population along with creating wonderful locally made honey products that we get enjoy!

We currently have honey 12 oz and 16 oz bottles of raw honey and tubs of honeycomb at the shop. You can find more about Grumpy Bees on www.facebook.com/grumpybees.

Author

Lord Ainsley by Kysten Layne

We can’t disclose our customer's true name (how cool is that?!) but I can tell you she writes under the pseudonym, Krysten Layne. Krysten is a published author!!! Her book Lord Ainsley can be found on Amazon or you can obtain a signed copy here at the shop.

Here's a brief synopsis:

As a woman with a peculiar talent for wielding scalpels in 1800s’ London, Ms. Rielly is no stranger to delving into the taboo side of life and death. Determined to find her missing friend, Ms. Rielly steps inside Ainsley Manor and into an investigation involving murder and the strange affliction cast over its lord. She promptly realizes that striking a bargain with him is inevitable and will require all of the skills she has secretly nurtured as a back-alley biologist. Will living with the man possibly responsible for the atrocities she finds yield the answer she sought in the beginning? Or will it plant seeds of doubt about herself? As the city streets gradually become more dangerous and the boundaries between them more indistinguishable, Rielly and Lord Ainsley find the truth may only be released with the blood within their veins. Whether or not by choice …

We asked Krysten where the idea for her book came from and she said it was born from a dream she had. She thought the characters were so interesting that others would enjoy it too. She said the characters and story literally would not leave her alone and she was just itching to write it. She currently has a sequel in the works! Outside of writing Krysten narrates audible books, is active in community service, lives with her sweet husband, Devon and their kitty cat.
